I hadn't really thought about getting chestnuts, so I'm glad you asked. My main intention was to help reintroduce chestnut trees to the eastern United States. There is a part of me that gets pleasure from that.

Nuts would be a nice emergency food source if I'm still around when they start bearing. For that matter, since I've planted 45 trees in total, I might find that I can make a little money selling them each year. I've seen chestnuts in stores and they aren't cheap.

A quick Google search says I can expect nuts in 3 to 7 years. That's not long!
