....a cops estate usually isn't much. At least it wasn't when I was a cop. If he has over ten years service his pension is vested and they can't take it away, but it will be at a reduced amount because it is an early retirement.

...I hadn't thought about his wife divorcing him for financial reasons. That's good thinking on somebody's part.

I doubt she's kicking him while he's down. Divorce may have been his idea.

If she divorces him now, she takes half of the assets. Maybe more - the house, the car, who knows what else.

When he gets sued by the victim's family, I suspect her portion will be protected. Only his estate will be up for grabs.
