From the time that this topic first arose, I've been thinking that it represents a huge failing by the Pentagon. They are supposed to evaluate all the possible scenarios that could endanger our country's ability to defend itself, and to proactively make recommendations to avert disaster. How could they not foresee the enormous implications of having the United States be dependent on a country that is not its friend for something as important as medicine?

I think this is about as stupid as it gets. It's like having China design the circuitry for our military computers, or letting Iran manufacture our bullets. Dumb, dumb, dumb.
