Sad thing is that metoo was a typical single issue movement, which elevates one value over others. Yes, women want protection. No, not all women are victims. Some women have different motive.
Saying that "you must simply believe women" is a sort of model that makes space for devious women to play victim.
Instead of saying believe women, admit that both men and women sometimes do bad things, and in a situation in which only oral consent is ever given, and in which a liar can invent anything, there may either be no evidence to work with, or no event to discover.
And so you have to lean on the reputation of the two parties and the possible motives that are involved.
Throw in political swiftboat campaigns and you have a difficult judgement to make. I presume innocence unless there's a pattern of bad behaviour or there's evidence available.
