Not going to be flippant, but this has always been damned obvious. The US is weeks or even months away from being in a position to reopen. The lack of a competent federal response is setting things back.

One thing I am still finding hard to understand is why there isn't an avalanche of masks available, not just to hospitals but to the general public. Give them away. There's a massive economic (as well as a medical) benefit from slowing transmission. Surely making masks en masse is doable.[Not just a US issue]

Mississippi governor says he changed his mind on reopening after increase in coronavirus cases

From CNN's Hollie Silverman

Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves said today that he had planned to announce the reopening of certain businesses but decided against it after the state reported its largest increase new cases.

He said the number of cases increased after the state received new information on previous deaths and tests.

"This thing is not over, we are not out of the woods yet," he said. "We have to stay flexible."
