We went through 20k. That was the number the UK government hoped we could stay under. We went through at a gallop. Very much doubt we get out with under 30k deaths.

New cases seem to have plateaued, at least.

Places like Italy and Spain, which used to look horrendous, are now seeming almost successful in getting things under control.

I remember when Joe Biden said something silly about the poor quality of the Italian health service explaining the Italian experience. It was one of the best in the world by numerous measures. The virus crushed it like a bug.

Very few western societies are coping well.

Thought the US had reached a plateau. Damn. Were some states playing catch-up, or is the virus waiting for people to lose patience before striking harder (this is metaphorical - I know there's no virus hive mind, at least I hope not!).
