I see what he is saying, but there are bits of the economy you have to preserve too. Unless farmers farm, consumers don't consume.
The point is that you need to figure the things you have to do and the things you don't. Then do the former and not the latter.
There are no absolutes. Trump is nuts because he plans to let many, many elderly people die to ensure GDP growth. And it would also be nuts to allow a famine in order to protect every farmer from the risks they face.
Shades of grey is usually the right way to think.
