It seems more like a weapon than a disease.

Normally people who have symptoms are contagious. Not this one. People pass the virus before they know they have it.

People seem to be able to contract it twice, so there may be two strains.

No one seems sure how it is transmitted. So doctors are dying.

It may be crossing species barriers.

And it kills at a rate of up to 4%. It's not clear why some countries have it worse: Italy has a very well regarded health service, and it is getting the worst spread in Europe.

Doctor leading search for coronavirus vaccine says it's the most frightening disease he's ever encountered as second British victim is confirmed and number of UK cases rises to 164

Speaking to Channel 4 News, he said: 'I've been working on epidemic preparedness for about 20 years and completely dispassionately without elevating the temperature or speaking hyperbolically.

'This is the most frightening disease I've ever encountered in my career, and that includes Ebola, it includes MERS and it includes SARS.
