If Americans Die in a Pandemic - Blame the GOP

by Thom Hartmann

As a possible pandemic looms on the horizon, the United States is the only developed nation in the world without a national healthcare system. Medicare For All is not just about saving as much as half of all of our half healthcare dollars, it's also about national security. The strength and resilience of a nation is affected in part by the health resilience of its people and the financial resilience of the systems that keep them well. By having tens of millions of uninsured and over 100 million under-insured people, the United States finds itself stupidly vulnerable to the mass spread of disease. People who are under-insured or uninsured are less likely to seek healthcare when they feel sick, which means that they will get sicker, and they will spread the disease further.

The Republican opposition to a national healthcare system that goes back a half century has left us vulnerable to the mass spread of disease. People who are under-insured or uninsured are less likely to seek healthcare when they feel sick, which means that they will get sicker, and they will spread the disease farther. The Republican opposition to a national healthcare system that goes back a half century has left us vulnerable to epidemic diseases or even biological warfare or terrorism, and that is a political crime.
