The worst possible thing that could happen, for both Trump and the Republicans, would be for McConnell to get his way and have no witnesses, then vote to not convict Trump. But then spend now until November watching one shoe after another drop showing that everything that was alleged in Article 1 of the impeachment was true. The Republicans will look like idiots, Trump will have to spend all summer explaining how he's the ONLY person in the United States who is not lying. I suspect that by the time of the election, this sort of thing is going to be a weekly event, new revelations coming to light.

Keep in mind, that it's being reported that the only copy of this draft was in the hands of people at the National Security Consul where is was sent for an obligatory review. If that's true, then it means that someone inside the Trump administration leaked the document to the NYT. This should make every American feel better knowing that there are still people in the administration who are putting loyalty to their country ahead of loyalty to an individual.

President Trump said he wanted to keep aid to Ukraine frozen until he got help with inquiries he sought, John Bolton wrote in drafts of a new book.

Mr. Bolton’s explosive account of the matter at the center of Mr. Trump’s impeachment trial, the third in American history, was included in drafts of a manuscript he has circulated in recent weeks to close associates. He also sent a draft to the White House for a standard review process for some current and former administration officials who write books.
