I’d say that every iPhone owner in America takes advantage of automatis backups to iCloud of their device, which happen AUTOMATICALLY every night when the phone is connected to power.
Period.
The iPhone backup is such that within minutes it can restore one’s phone to the exact same image of when the backup was made. Thetefore, when Apple provides a backup to law enforcement following a legal request, it is providing ALL THE DATA ON THE PHONE THEY WANT ACCESS TO. IN A FEW WORDS, THE ACTUAL PHONE IS NOT REQUIRED TO GET TO THE DATA ON IT.
Every year, when I have gotten a new iPhone, i turned it on, connect to wifi, and guide it to restore from the backup of my old phone. Within minutes I have all the data, text messages, everything, except for pictures which take longer to download from iCloud. At the same time, I proceed to reset and erase my old phone, and disconnect it from iCloud. It is now ready for sale. Wiped clean. All my stuff is on the new phone.
That’s how it works, that’s how it is.

Apple is planning to complete the encryption cycle and encrypt the iCloud backup too, but they haven’t done so yet. If they do, no iPhone data will be available to anyone but the owner. So, jackasses, don’t piss Tim Apple off, and he decides to take that final step of encryption, and you’ll get nothing from then on, when you get EVERYTHING NOW!
