Last night Lev Parnas appeared in the first of a two part interview on the Rachel Maddow Show. He placed the Ukrainian matter at the doorstep of Rudi Giuliani and the President, saying that he, Parnas, was operating in the Ukraine under the specific direction and control of both Giuliani and the President.
Within minutes Giuliani stated publicly that Parnas was lying, and that Parnas' statements that he and the President controlled and directed the operation were false - that neither of them was ever involved nor gave him any such direction or control.
Parnas, as an individual, may be somewhat of a crook, but he is a virtual nobody. Had it not been for the Ukrainian matter it would be fair to say his name would never have surfaced anywhere and he might have lived out his life in obscurity.
So let's suppose for the moment that Giuliani is telling the truth and that Parnas is lying.
If that's true, then who was Parnas working for, who was controlling and directing his activities? The Ukrainians? That makes no sense. The Russians? That would be utterly counterproductive to their aims. The DNC or Pelosi or how about Soros - he's always a good target? Nope, none of that makes sense either. How about the Bidens themselves? That's absurd. Ok, what about some "Deep State" operative? Huh? What about this character Robert Hyde? Did he, an more or less unknown hardcore Republican, concoct all of this including the correspondence with Parnas as part of some illogical plot he thought would help the President? Hyde comes off as a bit nuts, and by his own admission somewhat of a drunk but again that makes no sense either.
So back to the original supposition that Parnas is lying and Giuliani is telling the truth. Nope - that dog don't hunt.
No matter what the White House "press secretary" (in quotes since she obviously isn't) said about Parnas last night (under indictment, looking for a way around jail time, etc.), there are no alternative facts on this one. No competent attorney would permit Parnas to go public unless there was, in his and his client's view, a legitimate reason to do so - and the current premise is that Parnas did it to guarantee his own safety. What he said openly in a taped interview can't be "erased" by a bullet or poison. That may be far-fetched, but it has happened before.
