Texas to block new refugees from settling in state, Gov. Abbott says, adopting Trump admin order
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said Friday the state will not resettle new refugees, making Texas the first state to implement a Trump administration order granting local governments the authority to block the resettlement of refugees.
In a letter to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Abbott wrote that Texas "has been left by Congress to deal with disproportionate migration issues resulting from a broken federal immigration system.” Advocates called the decision "deeply disappointing."
