I expect Iran to respond assymetrically. More attacks on shipping near Hormuz. More attacks on oil facilities. Car bombs and so on.

So the next question. How will the US respond to these, having said its assassination of this person was intended as a deterrent.

The proxy war between Iran and the US looks likely to be more violent for a while. But maybe there won't be an overt war of the sort Trump seems to want. [His denial is usually a confirmation of his intentions]
