No, just if you plan on applying for concealed carry, a three hour class on gun safety, prudence, and gun laws, as well as insurance. If you have a concealed carry license, you can buy a gun same day with a background check. There perhaps should be a gun safety class for first time gun buyers. I also don’t know how strong are the gun laws once you already have a gun. Not sure. But, Florida is well on the way of reasonable, verifiable gun ownership, despite being a shithole with perhaps lots of crazy white trash.
The insurance issue is very important as in case of defending yourself, even if found not guilty, you can end up with lawyer bills in the thousands to hundreds of thousands. You can also be sued in civil court by family members, so in a few words, defending yourself can ruin you financially. It’s a tricky situation.
