Well, to my huge surprise, Florida has ALL of the gun laws that we should have across America. Congress should just do THAT.
Florida has red flag laws, even when you own a gun, it will be taken away if you do something, or end up in some mental unit in a hospital.
They have background checks, you can have AR 15s, 30 round mags, the works, conceal carry(just take a three hour class and pay about $100 bucks, fingerprints, and wait a couple of months for it, just five days to get a gun for home defense itself, in south FL, etc. very reasonable stuff, and I have found out lots of people I know not only have guns but are licensed for conceal carry too. They don’t carry, but they can if they choose to.
The only the thing missing is universal background checks, especially that these happen in gun shows where all kinds of criminal element shows up to buy guns they couldn’t get otherwise.
Florida in my view now is the model to be used by Congress for gun laws, with the addition of background checks,
People view guns as a hobby, own many of them, and it is the only hobby that a certain crowd is trying to kill or make it unreasonably difficult to enjoy. For example Cuomo in NY has made a mess of guns and gun laws. While you can get a permit for a home defense gun, after two people can vouch for you that you are of “good character”, you CANNOT EVEN TRANSPORT IT HOME FROM THE PLACE YOU BOUGHT IT!!!

I have a problem with that. While the individual right to own is in doubt in my reading of the Constitution, the SCOTUS has ruled in a 5-4 decision that It is a right to own, question is how we can managed it reasonably. In my view, FL has the answer plus needed universal background checks no loopholes. Shit will always happen by crazies, we just need to make sure it is as rare as it can be. Guns in America are a hobby, and millions have them, and use them responsibly. Just like everything else shit happens, once in a while. We can’t kill the hobby because of that. We just make sure there are no loopholes and leave the rest to where it is with car accidents, home fires,, gas explosions, homicides without guns, etc.
Shit happens, but guns don’t do it, people with guns do, and we have to make sure as much as possible that such people do not have access to guns, and that is doable. It is already done in FL, a shithole state, so it can be done across America by adopting Florida gun laws plus universal background checks.
