Sounds fair enough as tit-for-tat vice-signalling, although hard to quantify as a whole bunch of indigenous American deaths occurred due to disease, and thus were accidental and not deliberate.
No country is free of brutality in its history. There's no doubt the United States did some wicked things along the way. It's just some actions are more deliberate and on a larger scale than others. The Mongolians win the prize for historical brutality, in my view, but I don't hold it against their descendants.
The value of these sorts of arguments is that no country gets to say it is uniquely virtuous. But it is worth pointing out when any country denies the reality of its history. Overall, we hope the pros outweigh the cons in the record of our past. And that our generation learns from history. The errors provide indispensable lessons.
