He's so uncreative, he thinks that undoing the damage he has done by imposing worthless tariffs will seem like Trump-induced growth, and not the end of Trump-created losses.
He will hope that people will credit him with the feel-good factor he hopes will return in a year. So effectively, he imposed three years of misery on the US economy in order to try to win a second term.
This is what csl calls genius, I think. Personally, I measure the economy and other factors, not Trump's personal benefit, as what counts as successful leadership.
