Yes. I think the evolution of a faith-based, anti-reason, anti-evidence narrative originated with the American churches. It sort of osmosed into politics when the Republicans needed new voters and targeted evangelical Christians.
Because England doesn't have the same churches, and the Church of England is not anti-science, following its defeat by Darwinism, we don't have the same population of people trained to disregard secular truth-finding models.
Basically, the UK is still a post-Enlightenment country. The US has swayed away from this, but what is encouraging is the growth of non-Church alternatives as people realise the sheer awfulness of some American churches.
