Republican Rep. Duncan Hunter will resign after the holidays following guilty plea for misusing campaign funds
California Rep. Duncan Hunter said in a statement Friday that he will step down after the holidays, just days after he pleaded guilty to a count of conspiracy to misuse campaign funds.
Prosecutors charged that the Republican congressman and his wife "converted and stole" more than a quarter million dollars in campaign funds for their own use over a period of several years. His wife pleaded guilty earlier this year to the same charge and was expected to testify against her husband if the case went to trial.
He faces up to five years in prison when he is sentenced in March.
