Britain loves its health care system. Some fear it could be lost as Trump looms over election.

Britain’s beloved National Health Service is often at the forefront of the country’s election debate. But this year President Donald Trump and American pharmaceutical companies have emerged as unlikely factors ahead of next week’s vote.

If the ruling Conservatives win a majority, as polls suggest they might, the U.S. could be in a position to strong-arm the British government over the issue in a post-Brexit trade deal. That’s led the opposition Labour Party to raise the alarm, capitalizing on the sheer unpopularity of Trump in the U.K. to turn the specter of U.S. interference in the NHS into a potent attack line.
