One may overreach. The other undermines.
If the US loses its muscular individuallism and ends up a nation of victims - well, maybe it has already happened - then it will lose its cultural power.
Take Hollywood. Instead of quiet heroes who operate within the law - the Jimmy Stewarts and Gary Coopers of yesteryear - what we see now are one of two types: relentless fake heroes, who ignore the law and act as vigilantes; and whining victims of anonymous evil forces.
America really needs to find itself again. It is no longer the leader of the free world. It has become an advertisement for lost virtue. Sad to watch.
