Trump and many Republicans are saying that this is why we need to finish the 'wall'. I'm not sure how a wall on the Mexican border would have stopped this attacked which took place over a 100 miles SOUTH of the border. The only way a wall would have helped in this situation is if it had prevented the Americans from going to Mexico in the first place.
That being said, while these people were technically Americans, they've been living in Mexico for years and in fact, many of them were born in Mexico and thus carry duel-citizenship. So to make it sound like they were somehow on vacation or visiting Mexico is totally false and misleading.
