It would be nice if there was a means for people to choose divisibility, at least.

From that perspective only, I think the south might have had the better of the argument. That the region should have been capable of leaving the union.

From other perspectives (eg black people were not able to vote, slavery etc) things look very different, obviously.

Regional referenda make possible a peaceful process, whereas indivisibility means it takes a civil war to resolve certain differences, which is a terrible way to do things.

It would be such a relief if the USA split.

Who would care that there was a Trump presidency, if he was president of Florida Bananistan?

People in the northeastern nation, or the western nation could just get on with life, building their liberal democracies and making friends with Canada. The folks of the Great Plains nation, Lone Star and Jesusland could do their things as well.

It's trying to fit people with differences into a single whole that doesn't work. There really is no unity in America.
