Ex-felons vote in Florida after overcoming prison and GOP
A mayoral contest in Orlando marks the first time a number of formerly incarcerated people will cast a ballot since a constitutional amendment restoring voting rights to more than 1 million Floridians with felony convictions passed overwhelmingly last year.
But voting rights advocates say their work isn't done. Despite an ongoing legal battle, restrictions Republican lawmakers put in place could still keep thousands of ex-felons from accessing the ballot box.
