Not here to engage your family members, or to question them. I understand you find support in their credentials.

For myself, I am not a credential sort of person. As an example, I don't share my own, although I have some of 'em. Once or twice I've even had conversations online with people on subjects I have some expertise in. I have never tried to pull rank. I don't expect anyone to give a damn about that. I second them if that's what they think. I value the fact that none of that stuff matters in an anonymous space like this.

Instead, I tend to be impressed when folks deliver reasoned arguments backed up by evidence. That is usually the result, not only of intelligence, but also of particular knowledge, relevant context and judgement. Sometimes I even learn new things here, if only because someone says something which forces me to do research!!!

Nor am I disputing that your radiologist relative likely says impressive things about radiology. But is he an expert on other subjects? I love the work of Richard Dawkins on the subject of evolution, but I think he is politically a bit of a twit. Someone who has knowledge in one sphere may have less in another.

It may be difficult for you to inhabit a space in which the moderator thinks Trump supporters are dull-witted rubes. And plans to continue to say so. I say it not to offend you, but because I think it is so.

So, for instance, I am not going to be persuaded that Trump didn't cause the US deficit to expand, because, well, he did.

And I am not going to think Trump understands the US constitution, because he doesn't.

And I am not going to think US tariffs are a tax on China, because they are actually a tax on consumption.

And I am not going to think his impeachment is unjustified, because it is.

And I am not going to give Trump credit for reductions in unemployment because they began under Obama and Trump hasn't improved the rate of reduction.

And I am not going to pretend Trump improved the growth rate of the economy, because the growth rate under Obama was not inferior.

Only a rube would think otherwise. Even if they have been awarded medals for gallantry, or won the Nobel Peace Prize.

Conmen like Trump seek out rubes, of course. Is there a conman in the world whose marks aren't convinced the sun shines out of the soles of their shoes?

There were three Johnson voters in my immediate family. Two graduated summa cum laude, one magna cum laude. All will be supporting Trump in 2020.

Son in law is a radiologist who voted for Obama twice is the most ardent. He now thinks President Trump is an absolute genius.

Just letting you know.
