The Fort Worth police officer who fatally shot a woman inside a house over the weekend resigned on Monday, hours before the police department was going to fire him.

The officer still faces criminal charges as well as possible civil rights violations in the shooting death on Saturday of Atatiana Jefferson, who was watching her 8-year-old nephew. Jeffersonâ€™s family on Monday demanded an outside investigation into her death and called for the officer to be arrested.
