And so AG Barr, an attorney by training, presumes that he has some knowledge of the forces of history. He somehow imagines that Judeo-Christian religions are innocent, benign and conservative, whereas secularism is brutal and repressive.

Hypatia, Giordano Bruno, Galileo and Darwin shriek with laughter.

Maybe a minor point, but how do American Christians claim to represent traditional Judeo-Christian values. They talk fluent twaddle using pick and mix quotations.

Among the people who represent American Christians, at least the ones visible in the media, there isn't a single one that isn't an obvious charletan. They take absurd positions on nearly every moral question.

We have a conscience because evolution provided us with one. Our consciences allow us to think about the different questions presented to us individually and collectively. This has always been true and always will be so long as there are people and questions about right behaviour.

The reservoir of questions and answers from the bronze age and the imperial Roman era, used sincerely, provides an interesting resource, but hardly a definitive one when thinking about the questions we face today. It certainly doesn't have a trump power. Or provide power to Trump's corruption.
