Well, Pompeo is definitely toast. The leadership of the state department was in on it. Pompeo was in the meeting with Trump, then acted to pursue the objective. Trump's people were trying to do it orally all the way down the line. But a non-pol further down the line knew it was wrong and started writing texts as evidence of offline conversations.

At some point, McConnell will call time on this administration. He needs clear space if he has any chance of saving the senate. But right now, it seems clear the whole party is rotten to the core.

U.S. officials pushed Ukraine to probe Trump opponents as condition for White House visit, texts show

U.S. ambassadors tried to persuade Ukraine to publicly commit to investigating President Donald Trump’s political opponents and explicitly linked the request to whether the country's president would be granted an official White House visit, text messages given to Congress show.

The messages were released late Thursday by House Democrats conducting an impeachment inquiry.
