Um, that doesn't sound plausible. How do you bring pressure on someone to pursue an objective when you don't know what objective you are targetting?

You kinda have to refer to it, if only obliquely. Otherwise the pressure is exerted towards empty space, which is no pressure at all.

Anyway, Pence is clearly trying to inoculate himself, which tells you he smells the stink around Trump.
