It seems likely that the Ukrainian affair may prove to be the proverbial straw that breaks the camel's back in regard to the Trump administration. Regardless of one's individual view of the current president, the transcript of the conversation backed up completely by the "whistleblower" complaint (speaking here as a non-lawyer) seems to me to present a prima facie case of malfeasance on the part of the president likely sufficient on its own merit to justify House impeachment and Senate conviction.
Add to that the president's most recent remarks where he said in direct violation of Federal law, that he is seeking to identify the whistleblower, then added that the actions of the whistleblower and those he spoke with amount to treason, and then said that Representative Adam Schiff should be charged with treason. Put all of that together and you see a man hopelessly ignorant of the laws of the United States and completely out of control. Add his remark that his impeachment would lead to civil war and you begin to speculate that he has lost his mind.
Beyond that, it is now clear the Secretary of State participated in the call to the President of the Ukraine and then lied repeatedly as to his knowledge of the matter. Further, it is equally clear that the Attorney General of the United States, rather than focus on his responsibilities in regard to the citizens of the United States has become the President's personal government attorney and, among other things has contacted multiple world leaders seeking their assistance in disproving or finding fault with reports or actions by the U.S. Intelligence Community including the FBI and the CIA.
Then add insult to injury and include Rudy Giuliani's actions and public statements admitting everything as fact into this milieu and the disaster is complete.
In the arguments by our Founding Fathers in the Federalist Papers and in the writing of the U.S. Constitution, these great men almost prophetically anticipated that such a situation might occur as they built in the safeguards necessary to deal with it. It is time, for only the third time in American history, for those provisions to be enforced in regard to a President of the United States. As of this morning polls based on stratified random samples of Americans report that 47 to 52% agree that the matter should be pursued.
