I can envision humans one day bio-engineering plants or growing fields of machines that mimic plants, and automatically routing the sugars and carbs they produce into fermentation tanks that yield alcohol, methane and other combustibles. Ubiquitous fuel tanks that automatically refill themselves could exist, giving us as much power as we'd need, even at night and even in winter.
