As ever, I suspect it is all being misunderstood in the US media. A realignment is underway in preparation for an election.

There will be three main parties:a pro-Brexit party, a Remain party and one seeking to occupy the ground in the middle.

So right now, Boris is making it impossible for the Remainers to undermine Brexit from within the Conservative party. At the next election, they will be replaced by pro-Brexit candidates and they will have to operate from the outside.

That is as it should be as the Remain conservatives all signed up to a manifesto in support of Brexit in the last election in order to retain their constituencies. And then tried to undermine it over and over. This was dishonest, antithetical to the Referendum and conservative members, and they are getting their comeuppance.

Amber Rudd is one of the Remain leaders. Everyone suspected that, in accepting a cabinet post, she hadn't changed her spots. And she hadn't. She is simply trying to use her resignation to damage a pro-Brexit PM. In acting in this way, Brexiters understand that the Remainers are being exposed for what they are. It is a necessary transition.

Boris' lead with the electorate is increasing again today. That is why the opposition refuses to call a General Election. Because Boris will expand his majority and pass the laws required to leave.

So what is happening at this point is the government is trying to get parliament to force an election. And parliament is trying to force Boris not to deliver Brexit.

The good news is that whenever there is a new election, the new parliament can reverse everything this parliament renders into law.

Doesn't look like things are getting better.

If only the republicans had the fortitude these pols have.

(CNN)Amber Rudd, the United Kingdom's Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, resigned Saturday in a letter to Prime Minister Boris Johnson, saying she could not support his handling of Brexit or his treatment of Conservative Party members that amounted to an 'act of political vandalism."

Rudd wrote that she was resigning from Cabinet and surrendering the Conservative Whip because she could not support his decision to ban 21 members from the Conservative Party for voting to stop his no-deal Brexit plan.

Johnson, also a Conservative, removed the 21 MPs from the party, which means they will not be allowed to run for election.

"I cannot stand by as good, loyal moderate Conservatives are expelled," Rudd said in a post on Twitter announcing her resignation. She also posted her two-page resignation letter.

Having Rudd sign on to Johnson's Cabinet was considered a coup for the new Prime Minister, and she was considered the most important Remainer in his government.

Rudd's resignation follows that of prime minister's brother, Jo Johnson, resigned from Parliament, saying he was "torn between family loyalty and the national interest."

Rudd addressed the prime minister in the letter, saying she joined the Cabinet in "good faith" and leaving was a difficult decision.

She said had accepted in joining Johnson's government that " 'No Deal' (Brexit) had to be on the table, because it was the means by which we would have the best chance of achieving a new deal to leave the EU on 31 October.
"However I no longer believe leaving with a deal is the government's main objective," she wrote.
