Texas man who drowned girlfriend’s 3-year-old nephew to make more room in home sentenced to life in prison

A Texas man who drowned his girlfriend's 3-year-old nephew to create more room in their home will spend the rest of his life behind bars.
Bobby Woods Jr. was convicted of capital murder by a jury in Angelina County on Friday in connection with the 2015 death of little Mason Cuttler. The life sentence was announced Monday.
Woods, who was 17 at the time, told authorities that his girlfriend was pregnant and that he wanted Mason dead so they would have more space. A lawyer later said girlfriend Billie Jean Cuttler was actually not pregnant, according to The Associated Press.
Three families lived in the Lufkin home.
Woods admitted that he pushed Mason into a pond and turned his back on the child, according to the criminal complaint. He ignored Mason’s cries for help as the little boy drowned.
Mason’s body was found Aug. 18, 2015 in the pond, one day after he was reported missing.
Billie Jean Cuttler pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder in exchange for a 20-year term. Woods, now 21, will not be eligible for parole.
