She doesn't really understand the role the royal family has within the UK constitution. They have no role in daily politics. Their important job is to guarantee the trust and sense of fair play that every system needs. And to draw attention to useful things people are doing.

We already have a more than sufficient number of folks expressing their political opinions who are without the benefit of pedestals and the public purse.

It doesn't matter if her supporters think what she is doing is right. It's about not drawing the royal family, and the queen, into controversy.

I hope she figures it out soon. They say she is smart. But at the minute I think she thinks she is civilising the savages, and I don't think she has any idea yet.

Her comments, as well as her choice of women to highlight, came strikingly close to political commentary for a member of the British royal family, who are traditionally apolitical — in public at least.
