Over the long run, you are. See the example of post-war Germany, which was far worse than the US is now. Or the fact that the US kept slavery going far longer than everyone else. No country has a history without mistakes in it. Everyone sensible knows this and has sympathy for your short-run problem. The president isn't the people. You will recover your country's dignity soon.
This is one reason it is nice to have a non-political monarch. The politicians don't get to tarnish one's patriotism. They come and they go. But the monarchy is always there, like a rock through the centuries.
