Though I do think all Americans should feel proud to be American. It's just that pride in being American should absorb the unfortunate reality that all countries sometimes end up going wrong. Of course, you also know I think the ability to be divisible is another missing ingredient about which Americans would also be proud if it was an option. In a situation of this type, it would be a nice constitutional attribute: to know you are not locked into madness. Of course, it would be nice for everyone, so the whole world wasn't damaged because US citizens picked such a terrible leader.
