...every time we putz around with the constitution it gets worse. At one point in our history the Senators were appointed by the governors of the states. The purpose of the Senate was to represent the states. The purpose of the house was to represent the people. When the Senate was appointed by the Governors we didn't have "unfunded mandates".
...and as long as I am "splaining" the obvious to the pfarters let me add that the purpose of the electoral college is to make sure that the president is supported by a majority of the states. Ya can lead America without a majority of the voters, but you cannot lead it without a majority of the states. That is why he is called "The President of the United States" rather than "The President of a bunch of loonie bastards that live in blue states.
...and another thing. When the electoral college was formed we were an agricultural economy, and the electoral college kept the rural areas from telling the metropolitian areas how to run their cities / states. Now we are no longer agricultural the electoral college prevents the metropolitian areas from telling rural areas how to run their states.

Liberals are like a "Slinky". Totally useless, but somehow ya can't help but smile when you see one tumble down a flight of stairs!
