Generally, the next generation of them seemed to support (or at least not oppose) terrorism during the troubles in Northern Ireland and helped develop the NE American environment that supported it financially. It was really the attack by Al Qaeda on the USA in 2001 that cured the last chunk of Irish-Americans of the notion that terrorism is a vehicle to solve problems on the island of Ireland. [said as someone who hopes one day that Ireland may find a path to unity but unless/until that happens wants to see north and south live at peace side-by-side]
