Trouble is, everyone he negotiates with knows this about him. He calls recovering the status quo he damaged a victory. Presumably this is how he ran his businesses and why they weren't a great success, except in branding terms.
Now he is running the US the same way. He has sweated and damaged the Obama economy, and now the Trump recession is coming. Will it be the Bush recession renewed or something less terrible? One thing that would have been so much better is if the wealth had been spread around more.

Friday’s joint declaration says Mexico agreed to the “deployment of its National Guard throughout Mexico, giving priority to its southern border.” But the Mexican government had already pledged to do that in March during secret talks, the officials said.
An expansion of a program to allow asylum-seekers to remain in Mexico while their legal cases proceed, another centerpiece of the deal, had also been agreed to months earlier.
