We start back to SoCal from Michigan in the morning (Sunday). Our first night will be near Des Monies, IA. On Monday morning we're planning a side trip trough Madison County, southwest of Des Monies, to see the bridges, as in "The Bridges of Madison County". There are some six picturesque covered bridges in the counyty, four of which are located such that you can get to them easily as you're driving thru the area. Will post pictures.
We spent this past week up at our home town in northern Michigan staying at my cousin's house (she had 10 kids so she has a big house with lots of empty bedrooms).
Anyway, while we were driving across Texas last week, my wife dreamed-up this idea holding an impromptu 'class reunion' for her 1964 high school class and started by calling a classmate who still lived in the area who then contacted others and between the two of them, they got this thing organized over the phone and by using the messenger/email/Facebook app's on their phones.
In the end, 12 members of her class showed-up plus the only one of their teacher's who's still with us (she's nearly 90 years old). It was actually her husband, who taught Chemistry, who was their class sponsor. However, in 1965, she was my class sponsor. And after comparing notes, it was determined that of the original 35 class members, 11 had died. So with that in mind, I would say that it was a big success given the short notice. Officially, the next 'planned' class reunion will be NEXT June, but that will be more of a 60's reunion where both of our class's would be covered.
Here's the group photo. Keep in mind that the average age is about 73. The teacher is standing at the far right side of the photo. That's my wife standing at the far left.
