1 million species under threat of extinction because of humans, U.N. report finds
Humans are having an "unprecedented" impact on biodiversity, putting nearly 25 percent of mammals, more than 40 percent of amphibian species, nearly 33 percent of sharks and 25 percent of plant groups at risk of extinction, according to a new U.N. report.
“The health of ecosystems on which we and all other species depend is deteriorating more rapidly than ever,” said Robert Watson, chair of the U.N. panel that includes representatives from 132 countries.
