I got back home yesterday. I drove a total of 4300+ miles in 10 days and visited nine states. Made lots of stops to see the local sights and tourist attractions. However, we did accomplished our primary goal, seeing our old classmate who's in a nursing home. He appears to be doing OK but it was still a sad situation considering that he just turned 72 a couple of weeks ago (I turn 72 in August). While it was cold most of the days, the weather was not an issue until Tuesday, the last day of April. It snowed in Rapid City Monday night and my car was covered in snow the next morning. We had to get to Salt Lake that night, 660 miles away, and it took us nearly 14 hours. We had blizzard-like snow, heavy rain, sleet, hail and wind, and much of this was while driving in the mountains, many times over 7,000 feet and having to drive up and down steep hills while trying to avoid getting hit by an 18-wheeler. Needless to say, we didn't make any 'tourist' stops that day. But we made it OK and the next morning, it was dry and sunny. A bit cold and there was lots of snow on the mountains and in the fields but nothing on the highway. My friend caught his flight back to Virgins and I got home, after another 680 miles, about 4:00pm, but then had to drive two hours, in rush-hour traffic, up to LA to see our youngest granddaughter, Paloma, in a school concert, which didn't end until 8:00pm. Traffic going home wasn't too bad, made it in hour, which was good. Finally got to bed around 10:00pm.
Will post some pictures later today (maybe).
