Re: "Gidley later admitted his mistake, and claimed calling Puerto Rico “that country” was “a slip of the tongue.”"

You're letting your stupidity show again. Puerto Rico falls into a grey area between being its own country and being one of the United States.

According to opinions by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1901, Puerto Rico is "a territory appurtenant and belonging to the United States, but not a part of the United States within the revenue clauses of the Constitution". So what is it? It's a territory. It might as well be land that our nation owns, not dissimilar to property that I might buy in Belize.

If the White House Press Secretary made the mistake of calling it a country instead of a territory, it's not a very big slip. Lots of people don't understand this stuff. You, for instance.
