Maybe for people who have forgotten the 1970s, socialism doesn't seem as useless as it does to folks who remember.
I am not so afraid of it so long as it represents a direction and not a destination. Move away from this awful, brutallist, antisocial model of capitalism. There are all sorts of stations along the way, if folks wish to get off somewhere leftwards of where things are.
For me, the station I want to get off isn't Equality, USA, but starting from Gross Inequality I hope to narrow the differential between between the richest 0.1% and the poorest 20%. It's incredible to think what a massive change it would be if the wealth owned by the bottom 20% matched the wealth of the 0.1%. The only way to reach that sort of balance is by raising taxes on the extremely wealthy.
