Britain's Parliament rejected Prime Minister Theresa May’s Brexit plan, adding to the confusion as a deadline nears to leave the E.U.
Tuesday, March 12, 2019 3:25 PM EST

The defeat in Parliament could delay or derail Brexit, and threaten Mrs. May’s hold on power. Lawmakers are now likely to pivot to other votes later in the week, including whether Britain would leave the bloc without any kind of agreement, a so-called no-deal exit.

Britain’s Parliament on Tuesday soundly defeated Prime Minister Theresa May’s plan to exit the European Union, a 391 to 242 vote that is likely to delay Brexit and could derail it entirely. It is a devastating blow to Mrs. May that threatens her hold on power.

• The vote left the nation with no obvious way forward, just 17 days before the deadline for leaving the European Union. Parliament is sharply divided on when, how and even whether to proceed with Brexit, and whether to call an election or a second referendum.

There's some good news on that side of things.

The Bank of England has reduced it's worst case scenario in the event of a no deal exit (something like a 6-8% hit to the economy) by around 2%.

So they see the worst case as a recession. Something that usually happens every 5-10 years anyway.

For me, that reduces the economic downside considerably while leaving in place the long term flexibility of being outside a tariff wall that guards a sluggish economic system.

Whether we get a no deal brexit is anyone's guess. But if the choice is remain or leave - well, we had that vote.
