Unvaccinated boy nearly died from tetanus. The cost of his care was almost $1 million.
An unvaccinated Oregon boy almost died from tetanus and underwent painful, two-month treatment that cost close to a million dollars, according to a case report published Friday by the CDC. Doctors wrote that the family then declined to allow the 6-year-old to receive a second dose of the standard vaccine against tetanus "and any other recommended immunizations."
“This was entirely preventable — an unnecessary episode of torture for this poor child," said Dr. Albert Wu, a professor at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
