If conservatism means anything worthwhile, it is being inclined toward incremental change. That is the original conservative insight.
The ideologues of the right are so far gone with dogma, no one even recognises the irony in saying Roberts is "a solid conservative" BUT an incrementalist.
The Republican party will continue not being a conservative party until it remembers that conservativism is graduallism above all else. Roberts does. It's a shame he is the only conservative left on the US supreme court as the ancient sort of conservatism is worthwhile.
