The business model involves selling private data to third parties (including advertisers). You and your private information are the resource. The pressure from investors on facebook means they are bound to exploit this resource more and more to deliver the earnings the stock market demands.

Enhancements to their service are designed with this in mind. Your desire for privacy conflicts with the profit motive. They will pay lip service to the former. But they are governed by the latter.

Monetising people's personal information is a repellant business. Hope the company finds a better way to make its money.
