TRAPPED
Venezuela's Top Court Bans Guaidó From Leaving the Country

Venezuela's Supreme Court has banned opposition leader Juan Guaidó from leaving the country and frozen his bank accounts, but President Nicolas Maduro insists he's now open for talks with his challenger.

Guaidó declared himself interim president last week—he was backed by the U.S. but Maduro has major allies including Russia. The Supreme Court remains loyal to Maduro and ruled that the opposition leader “is prohibited from leaving the country” until an investigation concludes whether he has “caused harm to peace in the republic.”

But, in an interview with Russia’s state-owned RIA Novosti news agency Wednesday, Maduro insisted that he's “willing to sit down for talks with the opposition for the sake of Venezuela’s peace and its future.” Donald Trump weighed in on Twitter early Wednesday, saying: “Americans should not travel to Venezuela until further notice.”
